Talk by Serge Tisseron: screens, video games: are we all addicted?

On Thursday 6 June 2019, from 1:30 pm, at the Bibliothèque nationale de France, Serge Tisseron will speak alongside other professionals and experts on the question of screens and video games. For more information: https://www.afjv.com/news/9665_conference-ecrans-jeux-video-tous-dependants.htm
“Excessive use, dependence and even addiction: our relationship with digital objects is increasingly being questioned through the lens of excess and of a possible danger to our well-being. How is this phenomenon perceived by institutions, associations and health professionals? Moreover, while some of these practices tend to be associated with the youngest, what support exists, upstream as well as downstream, for them and their families?
Standing out for its immersive power, the video game fuels these questions about digital uses and their effects – negative as well as positive – on social relationships, schooling, work, health… That is why last June, the World Health Organization published the new International Classification of Diseases, containing a chapter on gaming disorder within the section devoted to addictions. What are the implications of such a decision?
The members of parliament Audrey Dufeu-Schubert and Denis Masséglia, members respectively of the National Assembly’s study groups on Fighting Addictions and on Video Games, are joining forces with the Bibliothèque nationale de France to organise, on Thursday 6 June 2019, a symposium on these notions of dependence on screens and video games.
This event, open to all, will take the form of two round tables bringing together institutions, associations and health professionals.”
