Santé publique France details children’s exposure to screens

A large study, published by Santé publique France, puts the average screen time of children aged 3 to 5 at one hour and twenty-two minutes a day, that of 6-8 year-olds at one hour and fifty-three minutes and that of 9-11 year-olds at two hours and thirty-three minutes, with a strong predominance of television. While the minimum age for signing up to social media is 13 in France, 25% of 9-11 year-olds and 7% of 6-8 year-olds were using it in 2022, the year the study was carried out among 12,818 nursery and primary school children in mainland France. Children from the least-qualified families spend more time in front of screens and more often have personal devices, or a screen in their bedroom. (AFP)
