Towards good use of screens: what prevention prospects for the neuropsychologist?

Dissertation by Aline CLAUDON-LAURENT, Neuropsychologist, supervised by Professor FOURNERET and Dr REVOL.

Summary
The impact of screens is a topical subject that concerns parents. Screens can have negative effects on certain cognitive functions such as language or attention, and have consequences for physical health (disturbed sleep, sedentary lifestyle and risk of overweight). But these negative effects are linked to misuse (excessive time, unsuitable content). Yet these digital tools, well used, can be wonderful supports for awakening intelligence. They also provide cognitive prostheses for learning disorders and so allow children with a dysfunctioning cognitive process to express their intellectual potential fully. The point, then, is to use the right screen, wisely, and the neuropsychologist has a real role to play in preventing misuse and promoting good use of screens.
Keywords: screen time, learning, prevention, children.
